We are Born to be a Habitation of God–
The Bible teaches that the Holy Ghost is the “earnest” of our inheritance.
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Eph. 1:13-14)
The word “earnest” means “down payment”. Once the down payment has been received, then the contract has been established. It is the proof of the contract.
The Holy Ghost is the “proof” of our salvation.
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Rom. 8:9)
The Bible says that there are “gifts of the Spirit” that He gives to his children.
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;” (1Cor. 12:7-9)
“To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.” (1Cor. 12:10-11)
The New Testament also refers to “dumb idols”.
“Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.” (1Cor. 12:2)
The Bible contrasts the Lord we serve to the idols that were dumb, because the Lord we serve speaks and demonstrates His power through the manifestation of the Holy Ghost who He gives to them that obey Him.
“And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.” (Acts 5:32-33)
The religious leaders of the day mistakenly thought they were obeying God, and they knew that they did not have the Holy Ghost.
Therefore, when Peter said that God gives the Holy Ghost to them that obey Him, they were angry to the point of wanting to kill the disciples.
In yesterday’s post I shared how God had spoken to me to lay my hands on and pray for a woman who had been in a fire and God healed her and/or raised her from the dead.
Because I had heard the Word of God and believed it to be true, it had caused the faith of the Son of God to be manifested in my heart.
Because I had chosen to believe God’s promise was for me, He had baptized me with the Holy Ghost even though there was no evidence of it at the time.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1)
And because He had baptized me with the Holy Ghost then He was able to manifest the working of miracles through His Spirit in me when it was needed.
This great Biblical truth of hearing, believing, and receiving is a foundational principle of Christ through which we are allowed to behold the manifested glory of God in our lives.
There is found no greater evidence of this than when we begin to understand the mystery of being the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” (Col. 1:27)
