“And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” (Isa. 10:27)
The Bible teaches that the things which transpired in the Old Testament concerning the nation of Israel were all patterns, types, and shadows of better things to come.
The things that applied to them in the natural realm were all examples of things concerning Christ and His church in the spiritual realm.
From Hagar and Sarah being a type of the Law and the Promise of grace, and the Red Sea being a type of baptism for the children of Israel, to the Tabernacle in the wilderness being a type of Christ who was to come, the New Testament is concealed in the Old Testament and the Old Testament is revealed in the New Testament.
Everything that happened to the people of Israel, every word contained in the Law of Moses, every prophecy prophesied by the prophets were all pointing and pertaining to Christ and His Church.
That is why the Spirit of Christ spoke through the psalmist in declaring,
“Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40: 7 & 8)
Before the priests in the Old Testament could begin their priesthood and before kings could begin their kingship, they had to be anointed with the oil of anointing.
The Prophet Isaiah prophesied of a time when a new type of anointing would come that would break the yoke of bondage.
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” (Isaiah 10:27)
Jesus told the first disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they were endued with “power from on high.”
The anointing brings power and the anointing brings wisdom (1 John 2:27). The next series of blog posts explore how to walk in the anointing of God.
(Unless otherwise noted, all Scripture is from the King James Version of the Bible)
